About Todd Schmitz

Todd Schmitz has coached all levels from learn to swim all the way to Olympic Gold Medalist and everywhere in between. Todd is the head coach and CEO of the Colorado STARS. Todd has been on a USA Swimming international meet staff every year since 2009 including the 2012 Olympics. Todd has spoken around the world in the past few years about swimming and his love for the sport. Locations include Mexico, Doha, Philippines, Trinidad and Tobago, and Guatemala.

Todd began his coaching career in high school coaching youth baseball and softball. He began coaching swimming in 2001 when he served as Graduate Assistant at Metro State until he was hired at Overland High School as an assistant high school girls’ coach. Since then he has coached at the Stonegate Stingrays (Summer Club), Chaparral High School Girls’, Grandview High School Boys’, and Regis Jesuit High School Girls’. Todd voluntarily served as the Co-Chairperson of Age Group Swimming for Colorado Swimming Inc from 2005 until 2008 and he was also a member of USA Swimming’s Convention Education Committee thru 2013. Todd currently serves on the CSI Board as Coaches’ Representative thru 2011.

Todd has been honored by his Colorado Swimming (CSI) peers with the Age Group Coach of the Year Award in 2008, Coach of the Year Award in 2009 and Senior Group Coach of the Year Award in 2010. The American Swim Coaches Association has also honored Todd as the Age Group Coach of the Year for Colorado in 2008 and 2009. USA Swimming honored Todd with the Developmental Coach of the Year Award in 2010. He believes that swimming needs to remain fun no matter what age the person is.
