Developing Culture in a High School Team | Kevin Kinel
Kevin Kinel, in his time coaching at Chesterton High School, has coached his team to 4 Boys Indiana High School state team titles (2008, 2009, 2013, 2014), 50 Indiana individual and relay High School state champions, 18 Indiana state High School records, 6 National High School public school records and has earned numerous awards as well as being inducted in 2007 at Indiana’s High School Swimming Hall of Fame. One of Coach Kevin Kinel’s key to success with his high school swimmers is the culture he develops for, and with, the team. Kinel presents his ideas on the subject and gives tips to high school coaches about how to do so in his 2017 ASCA World Clinic presentation “Developing A Culture of Hard Work and High Expectations for Your High School Swim Team”. He gives specific examples of how to develop culture from his own experiences in giving energy to the team, developing fun traditions away from the pool, and giving tips on how to create bonding and connections within the team.
