How do the Olympic swimmers swim so fast?
What are their stroke mechanics?

First we are going to explore basic principles of stroke mechanics including propulsive lift and drag forces, forms of resistance and how to manage, and evaluating stroke effectiveness.

Then we are going to look at over 50 recent high quality stroke videos to study the techniques of the champions.
We will look at Olympic and World Championship performances in freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly.
We will look at the best starts, turns and finishes in the world.

The next big issue is HOW DO YOU CORRECT A STROKE THAT IS NOT WORKING.  We will thoroughly discuss principles of stroke correction including drills, teaching techniques, and use of key words.  We will review each exam question, one at a time, as a learning exercise and everyone will acquire a perfect knowledge of the test.

Many of you have excellent swimmers and you will be encouraged to share their techniques and your drills with the class.

When you finish the ASCA Level 2 Stroke School you will understand strokes like never before.

Coaching the Novice Swimmer Beautifully

Friday, October 18.  Registration at 3:30.  Class begins at 4:00 PM.  Class breaks at 6:00 with dinner on your own and resumes at 7:00 PM at the Pool Location.  Class ends at 9:00 PM.

This course is the perfect complement to the Level 1 and Level 2 courses.
We strongly encourage you to attend this optional course.

You have swimmers in front of you — They do not know how to swim breaststroke. How do you teach them?  Do you teach kicking first?  Or Arms?  Is timing important?  And if so, when do you teach the timing?  How do you teach the timing?

Or, maybe you have a swimmer in front of you who can swim butterfly but he pulls himself too high out of the water and becomes tired after only 25 yards – How do you correct this?

You have a child trying to swim freestyle but she keeps lifting her head to breathe and when she does her right arm crosses way over to the left and she swims crooked down the pool. What do you do? It won’t fix itself.

Your swimmers don’t know how to do a freestyle turn and you are not sure how to teach them.

This course will show you how to teach strokes to young swimmers.

You show up for practice.  You have 20 young swimmers waiting for you and looking to you to coach them.  What do you do first, then second, and so on.  What skills or sets are most important to put into practice?  How much kicking should you do?  When is the best time to work on technique?

This course will show you how to prepare and run a practice.
