Speaker Bios

Coach Daniel McCord: joined Nitro Swimming in Austin, Texas in Summer 2016. He is one of the primary coaches for the top 11-12 athletes in the program, helping to develop TAGS champions, Nitro Team record holders and Sectional qualifiers. After competing for Cumberland College in 2004, McCord served in the US Army from 2008-2013. During this time, he also coached with Fort Hood Dolphins Swim Team and Hurricanes Aquatic Club. Daniel coached for Carson-Newman University in 2013-2016. McCord has 10+ years of coaching experience and is currently finishing his Master’s degree in Sport Psychology at the University of Tennessee. He was recognized in 2018 as one of the Top 10 nominees for the ASCA Fitter & Faster Coach of the Year.
John Leonard: Current Position: Executive Director of the American Swimming Coaches Association
John Leonard has directed ASCA since January of 1985. Coupled with his 41 years
of coaching, he has become one of the best-known names in the world of
swimming.
John began his coaching career in Syracuse NY, where he developed numerous
national qualifiers, national Finalists and a 1976 Olympian. In 1978, he moved to
Lake Forest Swim Club and Lake Forest College in Illinois, where he again
developed a nationally powerful club team and USA National Team members.
John is still an active coach with his SwimFast Team in Broward County, FL.
John was a founder of the World Swimming Coaches Association in 1988, and still
serves on the Board of that Organization and is serving his second term as its
Executive Director. He serves on multiple committees for USA Swimming,
including the Olympic International Operations and International Relations
Committees, and was a member of the FINA International Coaches Commission.
He was named one of the 25 Most Influential People in Aquatics, by Aquatics
International magazine.
