Job Description:

I. Coaching.
Head Coach will be responsible for the following:

  • Manage the scheduling duties and responsibilities for the practice, training and competition needs of swimmers.
  • Set practice groups and criteria for advancement.
  • Establish practice plans and schedules for all HTSC swim programs,including developing seasonal outlines for all levels of swimmers.
  • Conduct swimmer performance evaluations.
  • Maintain a safe on-deck environment for all swimmers and staff
  • Provide feedback to HTSC swimmers after meets.

II. Management of Coaching Staff.
Head Coach will be responsible for the following:

  • Manage, motivate and mentor coaching staff.
  • Evaluate performance of coaching staff and assess coach-to-swimmer ratios.
  • Organize, lead and attend staff meetings, preferably weekly, but monthly at a minimum.
  • Educate and supervise all HTSC coaching staff.
  • Prepare performance evaluations for all coaching staff members once during the short course season and once during the long course season.
  • Coordinate stroke instruction and training principles for all HTSC practice groups for consistency.

III. Communication.
Head Coach will be responsible for the following:

  • Serve as the primary contact person for inquiries from HTSC swimmers and their parents, and potential new members of all HTSC swim programs.
  • Maintain regular communication with HTSC families, swimmers and other stakeholders.
  • Attends all HTSC Board of Directors’ meetings.
  • Prepare monthly coach’s report for HTSC Board of Directors’ meetings.
  • Coordinate club communications by email, text and other methods.
  • Develop and maintain professional relationships with:
    Hutchinson High School Athletic Director and swim coaches
    Hutchinson School District facilities manager and custodial staff
    HTSC vendors and sponsors
    Hutchinson PRCE Director and staff
  • Conduct parent meetings once per session and additionally as needed.
  • Handles disbursement of meet information, best times, team records, and recommendations for team apparel.
  • Maintains a calendar of events with practice schedules, swim meets,meetings and other events, as needed.

IV. Program Administration.
Head Coach will be responsible for the following:

  • Be a professional representative of HTSC at swim meets and other
    professional meetings on behalf of HTSC.
  • Represent HTSC at MSI House of Delegates meeting and bid on meets.
  • Coordinate practice pool availability and reserve pool time with Hutchinson Independent School District #423 and the Hutchinson Parks Recreation and Community Education (“PRCE”) officials, as applicable.
  • Coordinate and secure all facility reservations for home meets, including the pool, cafeteria and gym, with Hutchinson Independent School District #423 officials in a timely manner.
  • Submit all HTSC meet entries for all swim meets to the host team in a timely manner.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of HTSC fundraising activities.
  • Assess club owned equipment and make recommendations to HTSC Board.

Position Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • USA Swimming Certification
  • Ability to communicate and exchange information with guests who have inquiries about High Tides Swim Club’s programs, products and services
  • Ability to work in a stationary position and move about the club for prolonged periods of time
  • Have an understanding of how children learn, while having the ability to communicate clearly and directly with them.
  • Communicate effectively and efficiently with the HTSC staff and the swim team parents
  • Maintain certifications in Lifeguarding, CPR with AED and First Aid, or become certified within a reasonable amount of time of starting the job, and any certifications required by Minnesota Swimming and USA Swimming

Preferred Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Member of American Swimming Coaches Association
  • Competitive swimming background
  • Experience coaching competitive swimming

Salary/Benefits
Negotiable depending on experience.
Pay includes salary and bonus opportunity for registrations and fundraising.
High Tides Swim Club does not offer health insurance.

High Tides Swim Club (HTSC) was established in 1974 to promote water safety and competitive swimming opportunities for young people in our community. We are members of USA Swimming and the “Age Group” swimming program. We are also members of Minnesota Swim and have been recognized as a USA Swimming Safe Sport Club along with USA Swimming Level 2 Club Recognition. Our club offers the single largest guided fitness activity for children in America.

High Tides athletes range from entry level age group swimmers to regional/national qualifiers. It is a great group of professionally coached athletes that learn valuable lessons in sportsmanship, teamwork, dedication, and personal achievement while having a ton of fun in the pool.

We are a 501(c)(3) non profit club run by a parent volunteer Board of Directors which meets monthly.
