Job Description:

New Trier Aquatics is seeking a full time Head Coach to lead our year-round aquatics program with over 480+ athletes.

CLUB LEADERSHIP

  • Program Leadership: Lead a world-class competitive swim and water polo program that meets the needs of novice, competitive and high-performance swimmers and competitive 14U and 18U water polo athletes. Improve the competitive standing of existing programs.
  • Team Leadership: Lead, inspire and hold accountable a team of full-time and part-time coaches and a Business Manager. Create and foster a cooperative and collaborative work environment. Lead regular staff meetings to communicate training objectives and plans. Ensure employees, coaches, athletes and families feel that their feedback is heard and considered. Respond to HR related matters in partnership with the Parent Board. Hire additional staff and coaches as needed.
  • Vision: Responsible for long-term vision for the club including the overall team philosophy on coaching, athlete development, practice group structure and team dynamics. Create and implement a strategy to achieve that vision including 1 year, 3 year and 5 year plans. Communicate vision, plan and structure to athletes, coaches and families.
  • Communication: Maintain regular and timely communication with athletes, parents, coaches and staff. Host meetings as needed with parents to educate, resolve issues, explain policies and discuss concerns (e.g. annual Shark University).
  • Community: Create and foster a strong sense of community. Build and maintain relationships with stakeholders including New Trier High School and Loyola Academy. Evolve established collaborative relationships with local high school teams, Illinois swimming and USA swimming communities.
  • Parent Board: Report to the Parent Board. Submit monthly report to the Board which includes an update on goals, plans, revenues, expenses, pool usage, coaches, athletes, achievements and issues facing the club. Attend monthly Board meetings. Advise the Parent Board on recruiting, training and retaining officials, coordinating social events and volunteer opportunities.
  • Interact effectively and appropriately with student-athletes, parents, alumni, faculty, peers, community members, and administrators.
  • Work, Training and Competition Environment: Ensure the work, training and competition environment is positive, safe, diverse, inclusive, equitable and non-discriminatory for athletes and coaches.

COACHING

  • Coach Development: Lead, inspire, mentor and develop coaching team. Establish new coach onboarding, coach mentoring, coach development and coach recognition programs. Maintain up-to-date understanding of the latest coaching techniques through research and continuing education. Be involved with on-deck training of coaches and supervision of practices. Conduct semi-annual performance reviews and annual compensation reviews for all coaches. Ensure that all coaching certifications for self and other coaches are up to date.
  • Athlete Advancement: Support athlete advancement in the sport. Serve as primary deck coach for the Elite athlete group. Work with coaching team to develop training programs (including in water, strength, yoga and private lesson) for each group, determine practice schedules, design competition schedule and coordinate meet entries and develop systems to monitor/analyze performance. Ensure that coaches provide regular constructive feedback to athletes and families.
  • Athlete Development: Lead, inspire, mentor and develop athletes to set and surpass goals. Establish an inclusive environment that encourages sportsmanship, fitness, healthy living choices, fun, self-discipline, accountability, responsibility and teamwork including education opportunities. Facilitate athlete connections including mentor programs and intersquad competitions. Work with coaching team to create athlete education programs including in-house sessions and external guest speakers and create and implement a recognition program for athletes. Provide guidance and support to athletes during the college recruiting process.

CLUB ADMINISTRATION

  • Business Manager: Lead, inspire and hold accountable full-time Business Manager to ensure that club administrative functions are executed including those listed below.
  • Scheduling: Schedule staff and pools for athlete training. Develop season competition schedule. Communicate practice and meet/competition schedules in a timely manner.
  • Meet Administration: Prepare meet entries in accordance with meet calendar and entry procedures for each meet. Submit forms for sanctioning of hosted meets or water polo competitions.
  • Meet Operations: Run home meets via meet management system, pool systems, getting pools and facilities meet ready, securing meet officials and recruiting the appropriate number of volunteers to ensure success. Enlist support of Parent Board VP of Meet Operations in this effort.
  • Facilities: Maintain good working relationships with facilities. Seek out facility opportunities as necessary including possible new pool build project. Enforce facility guidelines and regulations.
  • Safety: Keep athletes safety including policies and procedures regarding Safe Sport and COVID-19 risk mitigation. Maintain Safe Sport recognition.
  • Membership Recruiting and Retention: Create and monitor try-out sign up (July and February). Manage try-out process. Coordinate each season’s registration process. Monitor retention, group sizes and club size and make adjustments as needed.
  • Billing: Process club registration fees and monthly payments. Process meet/event fees.
  • Fundraising and Scholarships: Expand and enhance fundraising efforts for the Hour of Power and the Samantha Cerrone Angel Fund to maximize the give back efforts.
  • Other: Manage other office responsibilities as needed. Recommend equipment purchases as needed.

LOCATION
This position is based out of the New Trier Township, Illinois which is in the surburbs north of the city of Chicago. New Trier Township includes Winnetka, Wilmette, Kenilworth, Glencoe and portions of Northfield and Glenview. http://newtriertownship.com/

Education, Certifications and Experience

  • Undergraduate degree from accredited university, Master’s degree preferred
  • Minimum 10+ years coaching experience with 5+ years coaching as a head coach or associate head coach
  • Solid competitive swimming and/or water polo background with focus on technical expertise and experience coaching athletes of different ages.
  • ASCA Level 3 certificate. Level 4 or 5 preferred.
  • Current USA Swimming Coach in good standing, with current certifications and clear background check.
  • Experience at a Bronze or higher level program and/or top 250 program as per VCC scores.
  • Consistent athlete success at the state, sectional level, Junior National or National level
  • Involved at the LSC level in governance/education/clinic development
  • General knowledge of swim club operations (pool rentals, coaching/practice schedule, meet hosting, etc.).
  • Experience leading, mentoring and training coaches with varied backgrounds.
  • High energy level demonstrated by engagement of coaches, swimmers, volunteers and families.
  • Strong knowledge of Safe Sport policies and reporting procedures.
  • Thorough understanding of USA Swimming rules and regulations and NCAA recruiting practices and rules.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
  • Familiarity with TeamUnify and swim meet systems (Hy-Tek Meet/Team Manager, Colorado Timing).
  • First Aid and CPR certified. Coaches Safety Trained.

NEW TRIER AQUATICS
New Trier Aquatics (“NTA”) was established in 1982 and is a USA Swimming Bronze Medal club as well as Safe Sport USA Swimming recognition club based on the north side of Chicago, Illinois. NTA is a leader in competitive swimming and water polo in Illinois and has developed many Collegiate, National, and Olympic Trials athletes and water polo players. NTA operates out of multiple practice facilities. NTA is a 501(c)(3) board-directed and parent supported organization committed to:
